President's Report

Greater Vail Area Chamber Of Commerce

President’s Letter | July 2018

It is July already--Happy Independence Day!  Thank you for joining us at El Coronado this past month for the State of the Chamber address!  During this breakfast we had the opportunity to introduce our Interim Executive Director, Sharon Mercer, along with these new board members:

John Carruth, Secretary
Phil Larrabee, Treasurer
Dani Gomez, VP Programs
Rosemary Bright, VP Membership
Brenda Hough, Programs Chair
Darcy Mentone, Government Liaison
Brad Anderson, Community Liaison
Ryan Bennett, Community Liaison
John Staats, Community Liaison

Many exciting developments were also shared during this past breakfast, and I want to take the time to revisit those with you in this month’s letter.  While the new office is under construction, Sharon Mercer will be working from the Vail School District offices and the phones are being forwarded to me in the meantime.  Our goal for the grand opening of the new office space is still being planned for early September, but I will keep you informed of our progress there.

Our community has been experiencing incredible growth both in new construction and business development.  As we have been projecting the future needs of the chamber it was evident that our current model of leadership, with a working board, would not be enough to capture the future growth in our community.  This reality led to a vision for what is next, and steps were taken to reposition our chamber to accommodate the future growth of our region and facilitate the needs of a thriving community. To that end, these three goals were identified and are in process:

  • Full Time CEO to represent the face of the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce in the community
  • Grand opening for the new office space, also known as—Vail Connection
  • New web platform for our members and the public at large

Our board will be finalizing the details for the CEO and conducting interviews following our board retreat later this month.  Several candidates have already expressed an interest in this new role.  The development of the new web platform is also underway and should be ready to go live during the next month as well.  Sharon has been doing a great job navigating this project on behalf of the chamber.

Last month we visited a new location for our monthly breakfast and the attendance brought great energy to the room.  You can look forward to another great breakfast on July 12th at the Radisson Suites on Speedway!  Sun Corridor will be sharing updates for our region and we will also have several candidates from the Senate for LD14 available to meet you as they prepare for a town hall meeting we will be hosting later this month on Thursday, July 26th at Empire High School.

Every year VailFest presents a great opportunity for our business owners to get in front of several thousand people from the local community.  Save the date for this year’s VailFest happening on Saturday, October 20th.  Early bird registration will begin July 16th through August 16th.  Last year there were some exciting new additions to our program and this year we look forward to building on those events to make this another epic event for all in attendance!

There has been a lot in the works during this past year and that is all coming to fruition now.  Thank you for being a part of influencing Vail’s future and the significant contributions you make to the growth of our region!

Making a difference together,

Jeff Logsdon

President

Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce

Vail Preservation Society

Connecting Community and Inspiring Vail’s Future Since 2006

Vail Preservation Society (VPS) facilitates community engagement through historic and heritage preservation. Our work provides a platform for building Vail’s future inspired by local values and traditions through partnerships between residents, organizations, and government in the greater Vail area of Vail, Corona de Tucson, and Rita Ranch.

Vail’s population has exploded since 2001. But no matter when we arrived, we all call Vail home. Through unique educational opportunities for youth, creating public art, recording oral histories, student museum club, preservation trades skills, or establishing Vail as an official Arizona Main Street community, VPS works to create shared experiences to strengthen our commitment to each other and to the place we call home.

VPS has begun rehabilitation on Vail’s oldest building the 1908 Old Vail Store & Post Office. When complete in 2019, the Vail Connects Welcome & Heritage Center will have a coffee shop, a gallery for local artists, house Cienega H.S. TSW Artisan space, provide information on local Main Street happenings like the fireworks of A Colossal Fourth, be a venue for live music, and much more. We can’t wait!
