President's Report

It has been a tough month.  Have you experienced those moments where the highest of highs were met with the lowest of lows?  Your world has just been turned upside down, and then you get some of the best news you’ve received in a long time!  Life can be like this sometimes.  The death of a loved one happens right before the news of a birth.

Our community has suffered some tragic losses.  As I speak to friends living in other places, they have experienced similar defeats, but the reaction of their community has been destructive, tearing each other apart.  Here in Vail, the response of our neighborhoods has often been to rally together and stand in support of each other.  This response is a reflection of character and it carries with it the dramatic ability to aid in the restoration and growth of a people, even in difficult times.  How a person chooses to act in moments of adversity says a lot about who they are!  Watching how the people in our neighborhoods have come together, reminds me that there is no other place I would rather live, and no better community that I would rather be a part of!

This past week Davis Monthan hosted its DM50 meeting for local business leaders.  Three things stood out to me from that communication.  The base commander is working diligently to create a safer environment for the region.  Intentional methods are being pursued to help family members on base find employment in your businesses, where those employment opportunities are being sought out.  And the willingness of our local leadership to work together for the betterment of the community is strong and getting stronger.

Your support of student scholarships in the Vail School District during the chamber’s 6th Annual Golf Tournament made for a great day on the course at Del Lago!  Thank you!  This was another moment our local businesses rallied together to provide future opportunities for the students in our community to excel.  Thank you Dennis Fischer and Michelle Harrington for helping to make this tournament a success!  Mark your calendars for next year’s 7th Annual Golf Tournament on Cinco De Mayo!

What’s next?  There is always a lot going on, but four specific things come to mind.  Registration for VailFest is NOW OPEN!  VailFest is the event formerly known as the Vail Country Fair.  The Greater Vail Area and The Vail Preservation Society will be converging to experience A Colossal Fourth party to commemorate the 4th of July!   The Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce is actively working towards a soft opening of its new office space sometime during the fall—listen for upcoming developments about the Strawbale House.  And chamber elections will happen this month.

It has been a fast and furious year together and the existing chamber board has worked diligently on behalf of your business to hasten growth in our region!  It has been an honor to be a part of this team, and we look forward to building on the various areas where we have already seen progress, making the most of those opportunities ahead,  Influencing Vail’s future!

Community.  Influence.  Growth.  Information.

These are our values as a chamber.  They determine our progress and they define our wins.

Member Shout Outs

Mark Tate, with ReSources, would like to give a big shout out to chamber member, Steve Pakus at Vail Electrical: The Vail Food Bank moved over Memorial Day weekend.  We had a wall plug which did not fit our freezer and Steve promptly came over and installed the correct plug and made sure our circuits were able to handle the load.  We appreciate Steve’s support of the Vail Food Bank!!

Kimberly Crossland with The Savvy Copywriter, gives a shout out to Rob Harrington with Harrington Technologies.  He took the headache out of migrating my website to new servers and transferring my domains.

Ben Knauer, Lennar Dream Team, also had work done by chamber member, Steve PakusVail Electric, and he did a great job! He is courteous, punctual and thorough!

Lori Riegel, with Vail Education Foundation, had work done by Steve Pakus at Vail Electric:  I highly recommend him!! He was prompt, extremely expert in his field, affordable and just all around awesome!!
