President's Report

It is no secret that, as business owners, we are often the limiting factor in the success of those organizations where we lead.  Perhaps you have heard of the Pareto Principle?  This principle states that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.  The Pareto Principle is also known as the 80/20 Rule.  A consultant once shared, “You can stop 80% of what you do and it wouldn’t matter!”  This seemed like a dramatic statement to me.  In that season, I thought I was tapped out in my capacity to do more, but the comment was intriguing.  There is a deeper level of understanding at work here.  So, I decided to test the theory.

Each of us has a very unique contribution that we bring to our business, and it is incumbent upon us to identify those areas where we add the greatest value to our work.  Let me ask the question this way:  What is it that only you can do?  You can’t do it all, and do it well.  The secret of concentration is elimination.  When you concentrate on your strengths and trust others to do the things that are not in your sweet spot, you will begin to see the Pareto Principle transform your business.  You will likely find greater fulfillment from working within your strengths and delegating your weaknesses.  You will also encourage others by empowering them to come alongside of you while working in their areas of giftedness.  And the collaborative process provides the kind of environment where profitability will bring an increase to the bottom line for your business.

Since I have embraced this mentality, I have been encouraged by the results that I have seen happen in my own productivity.  Challenge yourself to think outside the box.  I look forward to hearing how you are engaging this process and working with others to make your business more profitable.

VailFest will be here soon and I can’t think of a better environment to meet other business leaders and introduce yourself to new clients while discovering new ways to leverage each other’s strengths in the local community.  There is still time to register online, or contact our Executive Director, Michelle Harrington, if you have any questions.  Mark your calendar for October 21st and join us for VailFest at the Pima County Fair Grounds!

Later this month, the chamber is also coordinating another exciting event with the Vail School District, The Vail Preservation Society, and ReSources Food Bank on Saturday, October 28th from 10:00-1:00pm.  Look out for more information about this Block Party happening in the space between the tracks!

Thank you for Influencing Vail’s future and yourgenerous support of the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce!

Community.  Influence.  Growth.  Information.

These are our values as a chamber.  They determine our progress and they define our wins.

Realizing our potential together,
Jeff Logsdon

The ReSources Vail Food bank is very appreciative of Steve at Vail Electric and Jim at Family Air Cooling and Heating for helping us at the Vail Food Bank with electrically and AC issues this past month.  They are always very responsive and helpful.  We try to find help through the Vail Chamber and both of these companies give to the community.  Thank you very much!!
